Sri Lanka Muslim ally to decide its alliance in ruling party after May Day

Sri Lanka’s major Muslim party, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), has said that the supreme committee of the party will meet after May 01 to decide whether to remain in the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) or quit.A party source said that the SLMC hierarchy is under pressure to quit due to the government’s failure to resolve the problems faced by the Muslims in the country.The leader of SLMC, Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem has appealed to the President to take proactive action to stop the spread of religious attacks and intolerance against the country’s Muslims.SLMC sources say that some members of the party supreme committee favor quitting the ruling alliance. They say the party is waiting to see the unity of the opposition displayed on the May Day.
