JVP demands removal of Litro Gas Chairman

JVP yesterday said that leaders of the former government had robbed Sri Lankan banks and stashed away the stolen funds in foreign banks and the members of the present adminstration did it the other way around.

“The leaders in this government steal money from foreign banks and deposit it here,” JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.

Addressing the media at the party headquarters at Pelawatte, the JVP leader called upon the government to explain why it had not removed Litro Gas Chairman S. Moonesinghe remanded in connection with an international financial scam.

“The Chairman of Litro gas stands accused of having hacked into a Taiwanese bank and stolen USD 60 million. He is said to be a close friend of a very powerful politician in the government ranks. We demand to know who recommended him for the post of Litro Gas Chairman. When we go to a bank to deposit one million rupees we are asked how we earned that amount. When we obtain similar amount we are required to tell the bank why we withdraw money. We can’t comprehend how those involved in this racket could get colossal amounts of funds released by a local bank. We call on government to hold a full scale inquiry into this and reveal the politicians behind this racket. A formal inquiry should be held to find out who helped them enter the international money market. There is enough evidence to prove that this detection is only the tip of the iceberg. The person accused of such a fraud is still the chairman of Litro Gas Company. He must be removed from that post.”

JVP Kalutara District MP Dr Nalinda Jayatissa also addressed the media.
