‘Nothing short will break cycle of impunity’ – Gajendrakumar

Tamil National People’s Front Leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, addressing the 37th Session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council, urged the UN Member States to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court or to setup an ad-hoc International Criminal Tribunal to address the ongoing systematic violence against the minorities in Sri Lanka.

“Nothing short will break this cycle of impunity,” he said.

He claimed that the systematic targeting of the Muslims, soon after the conclusion of a “genocidal war against the Tamil people, can only be explained by the phenomenon of the Sri Lankan State transforming itself into a Sinhala Buddhist Ethnocracy.”

He added that the Muslim community is systematically being targeted by Sinhala Buddhist racists’ gangs continuously.
