Noyahr Abduction: CID to record statement from Speaker

The CID will record a statement from Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on the abduction and assault of senior journalist, Keith Noyahr in 2008.

The statement would be recorded at the Parliament complex shortly, sources said. Jayasuriya, as the minister of public administration at that time, informed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Noyahr’s abduction.

Former Deputy Editor of The Nation newspaper, Noyhar was abducted on May 22, 2008 and was released a few hours later. According to CID investigations, after his abduction, Noyhar was allegedly taken to a Military Intelligence safe-house in Dompe in a white van by a platoon led by Major Prabath Bulathwatte. Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has also been questioned over the incident. Former Military Intelligence Director and Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General (Retired) Amal Karunasekara has also been arrested by the CID over the incident in April 2018.
