President Maithripala Sirisena today asserted that he will never support the formation of a dictatorial regime.
The President noted that the public voted for change in 2015 when the administration at the time was heading towards dictatorship.
A leading Buddhist monk had recently said that Sri Lanka needs to have former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa leading the country like a dictator.
President Sirisena however said that ending an era of dictatorship led to the freedom and democracy demanded by the people being ensured.
He added that even though some attempted to interpret the present regime as a lenient administration, all of them must understand it is a journey with freedom and democracy.
The President made these remarks while addressing a ceremony held in Nikaweratiya, today (21).
