If President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa join hands and prepare to form a coalition government, the UNP will take action before that to form a separate government, UNP Badulla District MP Chaminda Wijesiri told our sister paper, ‘Mawbima’.
There is a strong rumour that such preparations are underway and in the event it is discussed at the UNP Parliamentary group meeting, he would again propose the formation of a separate UNP Government, the MP pointed out, while adding the UNP Parliamentary group meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is to be held on Tuesday (9) at the Parliamentary Complex .
Wijesiri also said that no matter what efforts are made by the incumbent President and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to form a coalition, it will not happen. He also challenged them to form a coalition and prove it.
“Even when the UNP could have formed a Government, it did not do that because the PM made promised to form a national government after the last general elections. Therefore it is the UNP that has the opportunity within Parliament to form a government on its own, Wijesiri pointed out.
