The terms of three Provincial Councils (PC) will expire by the end of this month, however the Government is yet to hold the PC Elections, said the Chairman of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Prof. G. L. Peiris yesterday (08).
“Today, the term of the Central Provincial Council expires. Tomorrow (10), the term of the Wayamba Provincial Council will expire. On 23 October, the term of the Northern Provincial Council will also expire. However, this Government has tricked citizens of all ethnicities and continues to postpone the PC Polls,” he added.
He added that whilst the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has promised its people that the Northern PC will receive more powers, the Northern PC will lose all of its powers by 23 October.
Prof. Peiris said it was not only democracy, but the Government has failed in terms of national security as well.
He noted that it was evident to all citizens that there is a conspiracy to lower the President’s security, and added that it was unbelievable that Authorities have still not arrested DIG Nalaka de Silva.
