The Sri Lanka police have launched an investigation into the discovery of human skeletal remains in Jaffna.
The skeletal remains have been found on October 11 along the Susaiyappar Street in the Achchuveli area of Jaffna by the workers digging to install lamp posts.
Police had reported the discovery to the Mallakam Magistrate Court in Jaffna.
Accordingly, Mallakam Magistrate A. A. Anandaraja on Friday (Oct. 12) has visited the location and conducted the preliminary inquiries, the Achchuveli Police said.
The Magistrate has ordered the police to submit the bones found to the Judicial Medical Officer of the Jaffna hospital for examination and to report the findings of the judicial medical examination of the skeletal remains on the 17th.
The Judicial Medical Officer of Jaffna Hospital was also due to examine the location on Friday, but he has not reportedly been present at the inquest.
Achchuveli police are conducting further investigations.
