President Maithripala Sirisena has violated the constitution many times and as a result he could lose his civic rights said JVP on 5 December.
JVP’s man in charge of Publicity, Vijitha Herath was addressing the Parliament during the adjournment debate on 5 December.
“This President continuously violated the constitution. Appointing Mahinda Rajapaksa as PM is illegal. Dissolution of Parliament too is illegal. These alone are sufficient reasons for him to lose his civic rights. We will not stop with impeaching him only. President should be humble and accept defeat handing over power to the majority in Parliament,” Herath MP said.
Herath MP also made a revelation at 5 December adjournment debate: “It was President Sirisena who was behind the April No Confidence Motion (NCM) against PM Wickremesinghe.”
In early April the Joint Opposition group in the parliament led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa initiated a no-confidence motion against Wickremesinghe which was defeated with a 46 vote majority after a 12-hour debate.
