Former President Chandrika Bandaranaika Kumaratunga says that there were , after they had desecrated the image and still thieves and murderers roaming about tainted the policies of her late father former Premier S. W. R. D. Bandaranaika.
She charged that these robbers and murderers were still active in the country and they still continue to besmirch the image of not only the former PM, but the party he founded the SLFP.
The former President made these remarks to reporters, having attended the 120th birth anniversary commemoration event held at the former PM’s giant statue, erected at Galle Face Green on 8 January.
At the end of the event when reporters had asked from Kumaratunga as to what she has to say on the day in which her late father’s birth anniversary is marked, she noted that there were many things she wants to say, but that the time was not apt to speak at length.
She only opined that the genuine Bandanaraika policies lie with her family and no one else.
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena also took part in the Bandaranaika birth anniversary commemoration event held at Galle Face Green.
After paying homage to the Bandaranaika statue, the President was seen exiting the area and as he was about to do so, former President Kumaratunga was also seen arriving and they both were spotted going about their business without chatting to each other.
The President immediately after paying homage to the Bandaranaika statue left to declare open the Laggala Green City on Tuesday morning.
SLFP National Organiser UPFA Anuradhapura District MP Duminda Dissanayaka, who was conspicuous by his absence at recent SLFP events, was also seen taking part at the event.
