Information from the Rajapaksa family circle has suggested that there is a plan to nominate Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife Shiranthi Rajapaksa as the next Presidential candidate.
The Opposition Leader who is currently on a tour to India on the invitation by ‘The Hindu’ newspaper had revealed during his guest address that the presidential candidate presented by his party would definitely win the election.
However, when several Indian diplomats had inquired from Namal Rajapaksa who the said candidate would be, he had indicated that it would be his mother.
Basil disgruntles: dodges meeting!
Meanwhile, the founder of the SLPP, Basil Rajapaksa had apparently dodged the meeting held between the SLFP and SLPP on February 07th to decide on who the presidential candidate would be.
The meeting was held at the residence of the SLPP Chairman G.L. Pieris.
The SLFP had already indicated that their Presidential candidate would be Maithripala Sirisena and the meeting was called to decide on who the SLPP candidate would be.
The meeting was scheduled for 6.00 pm but it was delayed until 8.00 pm in order to enable Bail to attend.
However, although Mahinda Rajapaksa and the group had waited until 10.00 pm, Basil had not arrived and had switched off his phone as well, according to a Joint Opposition MP.
‘Basil’s sneaky behaviour’ – says Nalin de Silva
Meanwhile, Professor Nalin de Silva said that Basil’s behaviour is sneaky. Under the topic Ranil and Basil on October 26, Prof. Nalin de Silva had made a political analysis regarding the situation.
In his letter, the professor had expressed suspicion over Basil Rajapaksa’s use of politics, questioning Bail loyalist Kumara Welgama’s opposition to the October 26 incident.
