The SLFP and the SLPP yesterday agreed on 20 key points, according to sources.
The members of the two parties who participated in the talks, which was the second round, said, they had paid special attention to the basic framework of the alliance to be forged against the UNP.
They said that as there was no point in forming an alliance only targeting an election, hence they had agreed on policies.
The spokesmen for the two parties said the talks were successful and the next round of talks was scheduled for April 10.
The SLPP was represented at the talks by Prof. G.L.Peiris, MP Dullaus Alahapperuma, Dr. Jagath Wellawatte while the SLFP was represented by party secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera, former party secretary Dr.Rohana Lakshaman Piyadasa and MP Thilanga Sumathipala.
