The Muslim MPs who resigned from their positions recently over the hunger strike launched by Athuraliye Rathana Thera held a discussion in Colombo today to discus their future course of action.
The meeting took place amidst mounting calls for the Muslim MPs to accept their ministerial positions again and serve in the government.
UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa wrote a letter to UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim urging him to re-join the government. The Cheif prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters also urged the Muslim MPs to accept the ministerial and deputy ministerial portfolios.
However, informed political sources told Asian Mirror that the discussion this evening ended inconclusively.
“Today’s discussion focused on whether it’s possible for the Muslim MPs to re-join the Cabinet. However, the discussion today did not yield results,” a source familiar with the discussion said.
