Parliamentarian Ven. Athuraliye Ratana Thero has requested the government to take over the Batticaloa Campus and make it a space research centre.
The Thero made these comments participating at a protest held in Batticaloa town this afternoon (19 August) against the Batticaloa Campus .
A group of Buddhist monks including Ven. Athuraliye Ratana Thero staged a protest in Batticaloa town today demanding the immediate takeover of the Batticaloa Campus by the government.
The protesters marched across the Batticaloa town and gathered at the clock tower to protest.
Former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan said the Batticaloa Campus should be shut down completely.
He further said that it should be taken over by the government;only the Muslim laws and policies are in place at it and it is not a university.
He further stated that a foundation has been laid to make Gotabhaya Rajapaksa the President of the country for eradicating Muslim terrorism in the country.
He also said the people need to extend their support to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa considering the safety of everyone.
Meanwhile, Sinhale Api Organization says that there is an attempt to introduce a Bill that will provide the necessary background to legalize the Batticaloa Campus.
In addition, representatives of several organizations including the Protect Sri Lanka (Surakimu Sri Lanka) Organization have met the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education to discuss the Bill.
