The Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) Central Working Committee suspended the party membership of former Parliamentarian M.K. Shivajilingam for handing over nominations as a Presidential candidate without the party’s approval, Party Leader Selvam Adaikkalanathan said. He added that after the inquiry has ended, Shivajilingam would be permanently removed from the party on October 12.
MP Adaikkalanathan said that Shivajilingam had handed over the nomination as an independent candidate, which is against the party’s constitution. Parliamentarian Adaikkalanathan also said that Shivajilingam had not informed the party of this decision. When queried by the media, former MP Shivajilingam said that he would contest as an independent candidate.
