Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) this morning (10) at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI).
SLFP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekera and SLPP Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam signed the MoU representing the two parties.
Addressing the ceremony, Jayasekara said that both parties have agreed that there are no major dissimilarities between the two parties.
“We began our round of talks with the blessings of President Maithripala Sirirsena and we got the approval of the working committee and executive committee. We have agreed upon 27 policies and we have agreed that there are no major differences between us. Some think that our party will be faded. But it will not. SLFP should know to go the journey with SLPP while strengthening SLFP” Jayasekara said.
Meanwhile addressing the ceremony, the architect of SLPP, Basil Rajapaksa said that the agreement is signed in a way that protects everyone who belongs to the two parties.
“We got some time to sign the agreement because we signed an agreement that protects everyone. We agreed that we should not victimize anyone from the grassroots level member to the others. Therefore, the members of SLPP need not worry nor should the SLFP members be worried because today we signed an agreement that protects all,” Rajapaksa said.
