Teachers and principals went on a sick leave strike and launched trade union action, this morning (26).
Teachers and Principals across the country are expected to call in sick today inline with a coordinated trade union action orchestrated by the Principals and Teachers Trade union.
General Secretary of the Ceylon Teacher’s Union, Joseph Stalin said more than 30 trade unions will join the move, citing several demands including a demand for an interim salary allowance to be provided.
However, speaking to News 1st, Secretary to the Ministry of Education M.H.M. Chitrananda said the demands would be considered following the presentation of the next budget by the Government.
Joseph Stalin, General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU), stated that nearly 30 teacher trade unions have joined the protest in support.
The attendance of school children has come down as a result of the strike, according to Ada Derana reporters.
