Printing of candidates’ preferential numbers in progress, Government Printer says

The printing of candidates’ preferential numbers is in progress and the preferential numbers of candidates in six districts have already been printed, Government Printer Mrs. Gangaani Liyanage has said. The preferential numbers of candidates in other districts will be printed soon, the official has added.

The printing of dual ballot papers has been completed and the printing of the gazette notification for the nomination process is in progress, she said. The gazette will be issued as soon as the election date is announced.

The Government Printer said more than 17 million ballot papers are to be printed for the general election this year.

She said the Printing Department is continuing its work, even bringing employees on shift on Poson Poya day and weekend holidays. The official said that all employees and all the trade unions are giving their support for the election related printing work at the Department.

She further stated that the printing of preferential numbers has commenced following the verdict given by the Supreme Court recently regarding the parliamentary election.
