Wigneswaran’s Contempt of Court case terminated

The Court of Appeal today terminated the contempt of court proceedings against Former Chief Minister of the Northern Provincial Council CV Wigneswaran and two others.

The Appeals Court bench comprising of Justices Mahinda Samayawardena and Priyantha Fernando was informed by the petitioner and the respondent that both parties are prepared to reach an out of court settlement.

The case was filed by the Former Minister of the Northern Provincial Council B Denishwaran.

The petitioner alleged that Former Chief Minister CV Wigneswaran wilfully acted in contempt of the Court of Appeal order issued on the 29th of February in 2018.

The Appeals Court previously instructed the Former Chief Minister to reinstate Denishwaran to the previous Ministerial post.

However, the Chief Minister without complying with the order filed an appeal against the decision at the Supreme Court.

However today, both parties agreed to settle the despite and withdraw the petitions filed before courts. Accordingly, the Appeals Court bench terminated the contempt of court case.
