Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader under pressure to resign from cabinet portfolio

Sri Lanka’s major Muslim party Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) sources say that the party leader Rauf Hakeem is urged by the party supreme committee to resign from the post of Minister of Justice.SLMC sources say that the supreme council is of the view that the party contesting against the government at the Eastern Provincial Council election while being a party in the central government ruling coalition United People’ Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and bearing a cabinet portfolio is a joke.SLMC sources say that the pressure is mounting and the SLMC leader will definitely have to take a serious decision in the next week.Another SLMC MP of Batticaloa district Basheer Segu Dawood resigned from the post of Deputy Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade last week citing he took the decision to work for the party at the Eastern Provincial Council election.
