Monthly meeting of the Northern Provincial Council held at the NPC building at Kaithadi yesterday.

Government should release information on disappeared persons of this country. Northern Provincial Council member Ananthi Sasidharan presented proposal on demanding to release Tamil detainees at the council yesterday. Chief Minister seconded the proposal.
Meanwhile provincial councilor N.K.Sivajilingam presented another proposal on demanding president to release political prisoners on unconditional basis.
He further noted government has granted public pardon high positions in the Lankan government to LTTE senior leader Vinayagamoorthi Muralidharan , KP alias Kumaran Pathmanadan and to Padhuman. Provincial councilor questioned that why did they fail to grant general amnesty to other political prisoners in this country?
Responding to the question CM added,
I have met president Mahinda Rajapaksa on January 2 . At the meeting I requested president to grant general amnesty for political prisoners and proper action of disappeared persons.
Responding to the question president said, this was a legal issue. I have ordered my secretary Lalith Weerathunga to take legal action this regard.
