US Embassy won’t change Twitter post

The US Embassy in Colombo today said it would not change the controversial photo caption posted by the US Embassy in its official Twitter account.

The US Embassy had posted a caption to a photo of US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Michele J. Sison and US Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues in the Office of Global Criminal Justice Stephen Rapp taken at St. Anthony’s Ground in the North saying that “St. Anthony’s Ground – was the site of the Jan 2009 killing of hundreds of families by army shelling”

The Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry yesterday said it would seek clarification from the United States Embassy regarding the matter.

When asked whether the Twitter message would be changed, the Embassy spokesperson said it would not.

“However the issue would be discussed with the External Affairs Ministry’s representatives in a discussion to be held this evening among other issues,” she said.
