Brazil offers Sri Lanka military training

Brazil has offered to train the Sri Lankan military following talks held between the Minister of Defence in Brazil and Sri Lanka’s Defence Secretary, media reports from Brazil said.

The Defense Minister of Brazil, Celso Amorim and Secretary of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday signed an agreement in Brasilia on technical and industrial cooperation in defence as well as military training and exchange.

Amorim said that his country will be able to offer Sri Lanka opportunities to follow courses such as those offered by the School of War, and the War Training Center Jungle (CIGS) from 2015.

Meanwhile Brazilian officials would participate in training programs offered by the Sri Lankan military.

Rajapaksa said that the Sri Lankan military has defence ties with African nations and similar ties with Brazil will help strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Defence Secretary began his official visit to Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, where he and his entourage met military and navy units of the Naval Projects Management Company (Emgepron).
