Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Selvam Adaikalanathan urges President Mahinda Rajapaksa to cancel the bank loans granted to the farmers in the Vanni district.Farmers obtain loan from the bank currently face major losses in their cultivation and face difficulties to settle back their loan.Government urges to cancel the bank loans of farmers affected by the drought in the Vanni district. The statement released by the minister says, Famers currently engage in the paddy cultivation have obtained loan from the banks and also some other have pawn their jewelries.Due to continue drought weather condition paddy cultivation has been completely destroyed in the country. Government has cancelled the loans obtain by the farmers in the southern province and also they urge the banks to reduce the interest rates of the pawn jewelries. They also permitted to pay back their loan in the Maha season.I urge president to implement this order towards farmers in the Vanni district. Due to the drought weather condition 1250 acres of paddy lands and 350 acres of other cultivations were completely destroyed.926 acres of paddy lands and 185 acres of other cultivations were affected in the Vanni district. 16% of 100 acres lands ,50%- 75% of 249 acres lands, 25%-1% 207 acres of paddy lands were vastly affected in the Mullaitivu district. Farmers in the Vanni district face various difficulties in the area, said the parliamentarian.
