Chandrika’s decision postponed

The former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has requested few more days to give a definite answer to the request made by the leader of United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremesinghe, to stand in for the upcoming presidential election as the ‘common candidate’.

Through UNP executive committee member Malik Samarawickrama she has informed the opposition leader that before taking up the challenge she should further discuss the matter with his two children.

Meanwhile, the UNP deputy leader Sajith Premadasa, general secretary Tissa Attanayake have informed Ranil Wickremesinghe that they agree to extend their complete support if Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga contest as the ‘common candidate’.

Sajith Premadasa has further stated that if Karu Jayasuriya is fielded as the common candidate he will vehemently oppose it.
