Foreign armies interested in sharing Sri Lanka’s experience and training

Several foreign Armies have shown interest in sharing Sri Lanka’s experiences and training, Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya said.Addressing the student officers at the Defence Services Command & Staff College (DSCSC), the prestigious academic platform for tri-service officers at Sapugaskanda Monday (03) the Commander revealed that the Sri Lankan Army is now offering four courses to foreign military trainees.”We are getting more and more foreign military officers for training,” Lieutenant General Jayasuriya said.Five countries – Pakistan, India, Maldives, China and Bangladesh- attended the Exercise Cormorant Strike as a multinational exercise, he noted.Additionally, the annual Defense Seminar which has become a routine annual event has attracted defense personnel from several countries.Defense personnel from 44 countries have participated in this year’s seminar held in August in Colombo, according to the Army Commander.Over 41 countries participated in the inaugural Defense Seminar in 2011 on the theme ‘Defeating Terrorism-Sri Lankan Experience’ in May last year with the participation of representatives from more than 41.Lieutenant General Jayasuriya said preparations for the next year’s seminar are already in progress.Training opportunities offered by foreign Armies to the Sri Lanka Army are on the increase as well, he noted.”China has increased it tremendously and we are benefited,” the Army Commander added.
