Students rally for Eelam cause in Tiruchi

In continuing protests over the Sri Lankan issue, a group of students under the banner of Federation of All College Students Supporting Tamil Eelam took out a rally in the city on Saturday seeking a referendum for creation of a separate Tamil Eelam. The students condemned the Sri Lankan government for its alleged human rights violations and the Union government for its failure to bring in amendments to the U.S.-sponsored resolution adopted at the United Nations Human Rights Council. The students, some of them wearing face masks as Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and U.S. President Barack Obama, marched from the central bus stand through some of the arterial roads to the Chathram bus stand in the city seeking to highlight the sufferings of the Sri Lankan Tamils.Meanwhile, seven students of the Government Law College continued their relay fast on Saturday and one of them, Dhayalan, a second-year student, had to be rushed to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in an ambulance after his health deteriorated. On Friday, the students were asked to vacate the place as holiday has been declared for the college.
