SLFP decides to contest polls with Joint Opposition

The central committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) convened under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena, to discuss the forthcoming Local Government elections.

The discussion held at the Presidential Residence last night also touched on the subject of the Central Bank bond issue, according to State Minister Lakshman Yapa Beywardena.

Meanwhile the central committee has also reached an agreement for the SLFP to contest the upcoming polls with the Joint Opposition.

Former Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne revealed this while speaking to reporters following the meeting.

However, former minister Basil Rajapaksa says that the Joint Opposition currently has no intention of joining with the SLFP.

UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera stated that every possible action will be taken to prevent the SLFP from splitting.
