UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardana was remanded till May 20 when the CID produced him in the Fort Magistrate’s Court today on charges of having misused several vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat.

Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said Mr. Gunawardana was arrested after the CID summoned him to record a statement on the misuse of these vehicles.

The CID had on February 26 recorded a statement from Mr. Gunawardane over corruption charges made against him by the Voice against Corruption (VaC), an organisation spearheaded by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Provincial Councillor Wasantha Samarasinghe.

Mr. Gunawardena was also questioned by the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) on March 18 over allegations of non-payment of installments with regard to the leasing of 33 vehicles.
