Police accused of using PTA as a weapon in Sri Lanka

The Police have been accused of continuing to use the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) as a weapon in Sri Lanka.

MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam told Parliament that the PTA should not be used either in the North or South of Sri Lanka.

He claimed the PTA is used as a weapon to prevent bail for the suspects.

Ponnambalam urged the Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara to look into the issue.

He also urged the Minister to address the Tamil political prisoner issue.

Nanayakkara assured the MP that the new Government is the “true friends of the North” and will look into these issues.
