COVID-19 death toll reaches 204 as five more deaths reported

Sri Lanka confirmed five deaths on Thursday due to COVID-19 raising the death toll from the viral disease to 204, according to health authorities.

The Director General of Health Services confirmed following four deaths caused by COVID-19 virus infection and accordingly the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 204 by now.

01. The deceased is a 72 year old male from Dharga Town. He died on December 28 while receiving treatment at the Kalutara General Hospital. The leading causes of death were blood poisoning caused by an exacerbation of diabetes and COVID-19 infection.

02. The deceased was a 59 year old male resident of Homagama area. He was being treated at the Ambanpola District Hospital and was transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases after being diagnosed with COVID-19. He died at the hospital on December 31, 2020. The cause of death was acute lung infection associated with COVID-19 pneumonia.

03. The deceased was a 61 year old female from Colombo 05 area. She was transferred from the Kotelawala Defense University Hospital to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and died at the hospital on December 31, 2020. The cause of death was liver infection and COVID-19 pneumonia

04. The deceased is a 46 year old male resident of Galewela area. He died on December 30, 2020 at the time of his admission to the Galewela District Hospital. The cause of death is said to be diabetes mellitus complicated with COVID-19 infection.

05. The deceased is a 75 year old man from Pelmadulla area. He was receiving treatment at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital and died on December 30, 2020. The causes of death were COVID-19 infection, blood poisoning and lung infection.
