India to build 6,000 houses

The government of India will fund the construction of 6,000 houses in the Vavuniya and Mannar districts, while the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) will provide the technical know-how.The inauguration ceremony will be held today (2) at Periyamadu Vidyalaya, Mannar. Among those who are scheduled to grace the occasion are Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Housing, Construction, Common Amenities and Engineering Services Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Resettlement Gunaratne Weerakoon, Minister of Commerce and Industries Rishad Bathiudeen and Indian High Commissioner Ashok N. Kanth. A sum of Rs. 550,000 will to be granted for the construction of a new house, while Rs. 250,000 will be granted to renovate a house, with the NHDA providing all technical assistance.
