The government yesterday said that it had taken the Norwegian Special Envoy, Erik Solheim, 30 years to understand the intentions of the now deceased LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing in Colombo, said that Solheim, despite his high profile role, had failed to understand the thinking of the LTTE supremo and his ultimate goals.Solheim’s admission to the media that Prabhakaran had turned down an offer by the international community to evacuate him and others by sea, including the civilians stranded in the war zone, during the last stages of the war, proved that Sri Lankans had a better understanding of the LTTE Chief’s motives and goals, Minister Rambukwella noted.
