Major Tamil party of Sri Lanka plans to meet Tamil Nadu political leaders

Sri Lanka’s major Tamil constituent Tamil National Alliance (TNA) sources say that the party is discussing a proposal to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and other Tamil Nadu political leaders.A seven-member delegation of the TNA, led by party leader R. Sampanthan, visited India from 10-13 October at the invitation of the Indian External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna and met the national leaders of India last week.Following the meetings with Indian leaders, the Tamil party said India had assured that it is committed to and would contribute its best efforts to ensure that Tamils in Sri Lanka secured a future marked by equality, dignity, justice and self-respect.In an interview to the local Sunday Island newspaper the TNA leader has said that the party is committed to finding “a reasonable, workable and durable solution within the framework of a united Sri Lanka.”The TNA delegation is expected to return today on completion of their four-day tour. A meeting of the TNA hierarchy is to take place immediately after the return of the leader.The party will take decisions regarding meeting with Tamil Nadu leaders at this meeting.
