The Sri Lankan government is planning to hold discussions with the Tamil Diaspora soon, Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella has said at the cabinet press briefing on Friday.The planned dialogue will be held at the BMICH shortly under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Minister, without revealing a specific date, said in response to the questions raised by the media on the current status of former LTTE arms dealer Kumaran Pathmanathan, also known as KP.Minister Rambukwella further added that the government has taken initiative in this connection and there are positive developments to hold a dialogue with the Tamil Diaspora.”The government has to be flexible and cannot continue with the conflict situation further and the Government’s only objective is to establish permanent and sustainable peace in the country,” said the Minister.The Minister has explained that despite elimination of the Tamil Tiger terror group three years ago, the causes that led to the terrorism had not been eliminated yet.”If that was not done properly it may re-emerge in another ten or fifteen years’ time,” the Minister has said.It is with this objective that the government appointed the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission, Minister Rambukwella pointed out.He said the LLRC recommendations are being implemented at present, and President’s Special Human Rights envoy Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe is meeting world bodies to explain the real situation and developments in Sri Lanka.Explaining the situation with KP, the Minister said the government has sought input from certain people who participated in the war against the country for the wider benefit of the people.Director General of Media Center for National Security (MCNS) Lakshman Hulugalle on Wednesday said Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP is free from prosecution as there was no evidence against him and he is free and running a non-government organization that does work for the benefit of the people in the North.However, Minister Rambukwella said KP is not yet pardoned.
