Chief Prelate’s stress that 13th amendment to constitution should be abolished

Chief Prelates of the Malwathu & Asgiri Chapters assert that the provincial council system which was established in the country by late President J.R. Jayawardhana based on Indian requirements should be immediately abolished due to the systems incompatibility. The Chief Prelates had made this observation when Minister Wimal Weerawansa had paid homage to them this morning. Moreover Minister Weerawansa had handed over an epistle to the Chief Prelates documenting the adverse effects that the 13th amendment may cause to the country. Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddha Rakhitha Thero commenting on the 13th amendment to the constitution had noted that although such an administrative system may sync in with the geo-political structure of a country such as India, such a system would not be found well in the interests of Sri Lanka.Meanwhile during a media briefing which was held in Colombo today under the patronage of UNP Media Spokesperson Gayantha Karunathilleke it was noted that the government was engaged in a charade on the pretence of forwarding the 13th amendment to the constitution.
