IMF projects Sri Lanka 2027 GDP growth at 3.7-pct

The International Monetary Fund has projected Sri Lanka’s gross domestic product for 2027 to moderate to 3.7 percent, in its latest World Economic Outlook.

The global lender projected an inflation rate of 5.4 percent for 2027, and an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent.

Sri Lanka is currently in an IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program, which is expected to conclude in March 2027.

The IMF projected global activity to grow at 3.1 percent in 2026 and 3.4 percent in 2027.

Global headline inflation is projected to rise to 4.7 percent this year and to fall back to 4.1 percent in 2027, driven by the wars in Ukraine and West Asia, with the consequent sharp increases in the prices of energy and other commodities; and significant changes in trade barriers, the IMF said.
