The main constituent party of the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) held the interviews Friday to select the candidates for the upcoming elections for North Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern Provincial Councils.The interviews were held at Colombo Mahaweli Center yesterday amid participation of hundreds of candidates waiting in long queues.SLFP sources said that a marking system is used to select the suitable candidates to contest from the party.SLFP has appointed three committees to choose the candidates for the upcoming Provincial Council elections.The three committees are headed by Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and W.D.J. Seneviratne.Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva is in charge of the selection committee for the Sabaragamuwa Province while Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa heads the selection committee for Eastern Provincial Council and Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne heads the selection committee for the North Central Provincial Council.The party has also decided not to give candidacy to the children or other family members of the party’s ministers and parliamentarians.
