The Muslim Congress with the government in the East; A group with UNP and TNA

The high command of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress discussed the offer made by the Tamil National Alliance for an alliance to contest in the forthcoming provincial council election in the Eastern province and almost ninety percent of the members were not in favour of such an alliance. The party spokesman told Asian Tribune that this decision was reached at the High-Command meeting of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, which met on Tuesday under the chairmanship of its leader Minister Rauf Hakeem. It is learnt that majority of the members were in favour of contesting with the Government.Meanwhile UPFA General Secretary Minister Susil Premajayanta told our news team that by now the Muslim Congress too has been accommodated in the UPFA list of candidates for the Eastern Province. The UPFA General Secretary said that a place has thus been allocated for the Muslim Congress since it had informed that it would be contesting under the UPFA.However reports say that a group of Muslim Congress leaders are preparing to leave the Muslim Congress and contest at the Eastern Province election under opposition political parties.Reports say that they will take this decision if the Muslim congress decides to contest in coalition with the Government.Accordingly these leaders will contest at the Eastern Provincial council election under the UNP and TNA.Reports say that Muslim Congress Propaganda Secretary Nisaam Kaariyappar is in this latter group.Even by now Muslim Congress Eraavoor and Kaattankudi electorate organisers have submitted their applications for contesting at the Eastern Provincial council election under the UNP.
