Hirunika Promises To petition Singapore To ‘Get Duminda’

If MP Duminda Silva does not return to Sri Lanka in the near future, the family of the assassinated Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra plans to write to the Singapore government notifying them that a murder suspect is in their country. Hirunika Premachandra, the daughter of the late SLFPer, told LAKBIMAnEWS that she did not know what Silva’s medical condition is. “One day he has to come back,” she averred. “He can’t live in Singapore forever. I want him to come back because this case is dragging on so much since he is not here. I really hope things will change if he comes back. I want him to be back and on his feet.’Hirunika pointed out that out of the 20 suspects, “only 16 are inside while four are out including the main figure.” She said she didn’t know where they were, “probably abroad or dead.”Silva’s lawyer, Hemantha Warnakulasuriya, PC, has filed a contempt of court case against Hirunika for making statements he alleges could be harmful to the integrity of the court. But she said it is a “silly way of trying to scare me and to draw my focus away.” “From the beginning, I asked for justice; I never said anything against the magistrate or the court.”Hirunika dismissed speculation that she is joining the government saying that she is still a member of the Mahajana Party. She also said she did not know when she would join active politics because her focus now is to secure justice for her father and the others who died with him in October 2011.
