United Peoples Freedom Alliance Provincial Councillor T.M.R Siripala who was nominated by the UNP has been appointed as the new Chairman of the North Central Provincial Council by a majority of votes.Today incidentally marked the initiation of the inaugural session of the North Central Provincial Council where the name of UNP Provincial Councillor Amarakeerthi Athukorala was also nominated for the chair of the provincial council.Athukorala was also nominated by the United National Party subsequent to which a secret ballot was held during which T.M.R Siripala who was nominated by the UNP obtained 21 votes & Amarakeerthi Athukorala obtained 10 votes.During the ballot one provincial councillor had abstained from casting his vote.
