A disrobed Buddhist monk has been sentenced to 20 years of hard labour for the rape of a young girl seven years ago.The girl’s aunt and uncle were also given 20 year prison terms each for their part in the crime.Sunil Shantha, formerly known as the healer monk A. Sobhitha of Ruwanwella, was also ordered to pay Rs. 200,000 as compensation and a Rs. 20,000 fine.The two other convicted too, were fined Rs. 20,000 each by Kegalle high court judge Menaka Wijesundara today (Oct. 02).Shantha had raped the girl, Janitha Bandara, at his tea estate bungalow in Bulathkohupitiya in 2005.
