Sri Lanka ruling party deputy mayor remanded on bribery charges

A Sri Lankan court Friday has remanded a ruling party deputy mayor and his personal driver on bribery charges.Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singapulli ordered to remand the Deputy Mayor of the Dambulla Municipal Council Kusumsiri Ariyaratne his personal driver R. Piyasena until October 25 when they were produced in court.The ruling party deputy mayor of was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in Dambulla on October 5 when he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 100, 000 from a contractor in the Galahitiyawa area in Dambulla.
