Sri Lanka said Friday that it has found the wreckage of a passenger plane believed to have been shot down by Tamil Tigers 14 years ago.Sri Lanka Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that the Navy searched the seabed on the request of the Terrorists Investigation Division (TID) and located the wreckage of the ‘Lion Air’ domestic passenger plane.”On the request of the Terrorists Investigation Division (TID) Navy surveyed the sea bed off the Iranativu Island in the northern sea and located some wreckages of a plane,” the Navy Spokesman has said.The Lion Air flight 602 from Palaly to Ratmalana carrying 48 civilians and 8 crew including two Ukrainian pilots went missing on September 29, 1998 over the northern seas.It was believed that, the LTTE terrorists in a missile attack shot down the Antonov 26 over the Iranativu Island just ten minutes after it took off from Palaly.The Navy diving team has searched the area on information provided by a former LTTE cadre who is under the custody of the TID, The Island newspaper reported.
