All measures are in place to reduce this to 10 percent. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) loses over Rs 3 billion annually to provide electricity to the Northern province continuously. The Power and Energy Ministry is planning to reduce this loss by building a 24 megawatt furnace oil power plant in the Northern province,” he said. The Lanka Electricity Company has invested Rs 3.5 billion on this project, the minister said.Ranawaka said the CEB hopes to create a solar energy garden with a capacity of 10 megawatt in the Kilinochchi district and fix a high tension 132 kilovolt line in Anuradhapura. The government will also spend Rs 3,300 million to extend the national electricity grid to Nainathivu, Elawanthivu, Analathivu and Delft islands, he said.
