A five-member Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) delegation led by General Secretary Tilvin Silva has held official talks in New Delhi with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh.
The delegation is visiting India under the BJP’s “KNOW BJP” programme at the invitation of the BJP’s Foreign Affairs Department.
The visiting team includes MP Aboobucker Athambawa, JVP Central Committee member Chandrika Adhikari, District Committee member Kabilan Sundaramoorthy and International Department member Kalpana Madhubhashini.
During the discussions, both delegations exchanged views on the political history of the BJP and its strategies for expanding grassroots membership.
The Indian representatives also briefed their Sri Lankan counterparts on key infrastructure projects and national development initiatives implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Officials highlighted that strengthening mutual understanding between major political parties is essential for fostering deeper friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Engagement with women and youth wings
The JVP delegation also met leaders of mass organisations affiliated with the BJP.
Mahila Morcha National Chairperson Shrimati Roopkumari Chaudhary represented the women’s wing, while Shri Vineet Vats Tyagi and Bhakti Sharma took part from the youth wing.
Both sides placed special emphasis on expanding the participation of women and young people in modern political structures.
The programme will conclude on 1 October, with high-level meetings planned with senior diplomats, including Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.
