Interpol Blue Notice Sought For Basil Rajapaksa

Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala says a request has been made to Interpol to issue a Blue Notice concerning former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, who has fled the country.

A senior police officer said Interpol has requested further information from Sri Lanka in response to the request.

He added that steps have been taken to submit the relevant documents.

Two warrants have currently been issued for the arrest of Basil Rajapaksa.

The warrants relate to the purchase of a 1.5-acre plot of land in Brown’s Hill, Matara, using allegedly illicitly acquired funds, and the distribution of 12,000 T-shirts during the Uva Provincial Council election period using Rs. 7.8 million belonging to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
