Naufer Moulavi sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment over Wanathawilluwa explosives case

Naufar Maulavi has been sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo Special Trial-at-Bar after being found guilty of four charges relating to the illegal possession of a firearm, live ammunition, detonators and other materials used in the manufacture of explosives.

The case was filed following the discovery of the weapons and explosives-related materials at the Lactowatta estate in Wanathawilluwa in 2018.

Maulavi and co-defendant Mohamed Ibrahim Saadiq were found guilty after pleading guilty to four charges, numbered 1, 2, 8 and 9 in the indictment.

The court imposed prison sentences totalling 48 years on each defendant, with the sentences to run concurrently, resulting in an effective term of 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for each, Ada Derana reporter said.
